Taizé Prayer Service

Our Taizé prayer services are held on the first Fridays of each month at 7 p.m. in the Philip Johnson-designed Interfaith Peace Chapel.

The themes for 2014 and 2015 are listed below:

    06 March
    27 March (Lent)
    10 April* (second Friday)
    01 May
    05 June

    04 September
    02 October
    06 November
    04 December

A Taizé prayer service is simple meditative singing—chants that are repeated so that the discursive mind no longer needs to think about the words, and we can open ourselves at a deeper level to an awareness of God’s presence.

Taizé is also prayer through silence. Many people aren’t comfortable with silence, but remember that our imagination is a gift, and we can choose to imagine something wonderful. Psalm 131 says: “I have calmed and quieted my soul like a weaned child and its mother.” If we can take even a moment of silence and imagine this kind of calm, our souls might find a lovely mini-sabbath.

We also pray through readings of sacred texts during a Taizé service, and we pray visually through the beauty of the chapel filled with candlelight.

No need to register. Free and open to the public, so mark your calendars and bring a friend! Please contact Rev. Mike Wright-Chapman if you have any questions.
