Mardi Gras Pancake Supper- Tuesday, February 21 @ 6 p.m.

Fat Tuesday, for those who may not know…. is Mardi Gras –a religious festival occurring all over the world. Of course, New Orleans, Louisiana, is infamous for its yearly celebrations of this festival. "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday – so it has become known as Fat Tuesday. Traditionally, Fat Tuesday is the day one uses up all the fat, sugar, eggs, and most other delicious items in one’s kitchen in preparation for the forty days of fasting between Lent and Easter.

Traditionally, the yearly celebrations festivities begin January 6, which is the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings are believed to have visited the Christ Child bearing their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and continue to its crescendo on Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, which is always the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.

This year on Tuesday, February 21 @ 6 p.m. Rev. Shelley Hamilton, Brian Parman and many others will once again prepare and host an absolutely scrumptious pancake supper with traditional New Orleans fare such as Beignets (French doughnuts) King Cake, coffee with chicory and scalded milk as well as a variety of pancakes, potatoes New Orleans style, sausage and who knows what other delicious food and drink items will appear.

As always, we encouraging you to dress up in your best Mardi Gras drag and/or costume! Gowns, masks, makeup...whatever helps you prepare for an evening of great food and outlandish fun.
